A film charting the life and times of country music legend Hank Williams has been picked up by Universal.

Variety reports that 821 Entertainment Group and Strike Entertainment will join forces to produce the movie. The Hank Williams estate has also offered its support.

Mark Abraham, the man who produced the apocalyptically excellent Children Of Men, is currently writing the script. Colin Escott's biography of Williams is being cited as a main source for the narrative.

Williams died at the age of an overdose in 1953. He was 29.
