Brian Jones, the Rolling Stones' troubled guitarist, was only 27 when he was found dead in his swimming pool on July 3, 1969. An inquest conducted at the time recorded a verdict of death by misadventure, but now Sussex police have re-opened the case after new information was unearthed.
A spokesman for Sussex police said: "These papers will be examined by Sussex Police, but it is too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome will be."
Speculation that Jones was murdered by one of his Cotchford Farm associates has been rife for decades.

The Horrors are likely to appear on the new Gorillaz album after Damon Albarn recently invited the band to work on a new song at his London studio.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Horrors bassist Rhys Webb revealed that Albarn had emailed the group after hearing their second album Primary Colours earlier this year.
"It was kind of a strange email saying, 'Would you guys be able to come down to my studio at some point?'," said Webb. "We had no idea really what it was about but thought that would be great to go down there, have a chat, it would be nice to meet him.
"We went down to the studio and he said, 'We're working on the new album and we've not collaborated with a guitar band before and your album is one of the most exciting things I've heard in a long time. Would you be up for working on a track?'.
The new Gorillaz album is scheduled to appear in 2010.
