Thom Yorke's New Band Unveiled!

10:07 AM GMT 29/09/2009

Radiohead's Thom Yorke will play songs from his debut solo album, The Eraser, at two US shows due to take place next week.

And he'll be appearing with a few familiar faces. His five-piece outfit is set to feature Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker and Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco.

The band will play L.A.'s Orpheum Theatre on October 4 and 5.

Yorke's recent post on Radiohead's Dead Air Space site reads: "In the past couple of weeks I've been getting a band together for fun to play The Eraser stuff live and the new songs etc, to see if it could work!"

He then adds: "We don't really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz... well... we haven't got that much material yet! But come and check it out if you are in the area."

Sam Cooke will be the subject of a new biopic based on Peter Guralnick's biography, Dream Boogie: The Triumph Of Sam Cooke.

The soul legend's record label, ABKCO Music & Records, is developing the script. Jody Klein, president of the company, is set to make a full announcement over the course of the next few months.

Between 1950 and 1964 Cooke became one of America's greatest vocal talents, bridging the gap between '50's gospel/R&B and '60's soul. A Change Is Gonna Come, his posthumously released single, became an anthem for the civil rights movement in the late 1960s. Cooke was shot dead at a Los Angeles motel in December 1964 by the establishment's owner, Bertha Franklin.
