In 1974 the titans of US R&B descended on Zaire's capital Kinshasa for a mammoth, three-night extravaganza in celebration of the ultimate heavyweight contest between boxing legends Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
Jeffrey Levy-Hinte's Soul Power is the new verité documentary entirely composed of footage shot at the festival and features performances from the likes of James Brown, B.B. King, Bill Withers, Celia Cruz and Miriam Makeba. The footage has been locked in a vault for the last 35 years, but now, restored to HD standards by the filmmakers, Soul Power represents a key event in 20th Century popular music.
