Ultimate Floyd!

THE CHALLENGE? As we revisit The Wall, can we also compile a playlist of 30 tracks that sum up the very best of Pink Floyd? Of course we can. It's easy. Until you start thinking about it...

However, after a deranging night of playing every Floyd album back to back, selecting favourite tunes and arranging them in chronological order, we were pretty pleased. Behold! A celebration of four decades of sonic tension and adventure.

Doubtless there will be those willing to debate my selection - "Wot? No, Money!?" you rage. "Or See Emily Play?!" "Or One Of These Days?!" Well, no. None of those. Nor is there any live material - although swift re-spins of Pulse and Is There Anybody Out There? during the compiling process revealed merits your compiler had perhaps underestimated on release.

Anyhow, this playlist is a personal selection, and the reasons for inclusion are listed below. Disagreements are best dealt with by simply compiling your own Pink Floyd Playlist. In the meantime, here's one man's view...

  • Not a bad top 30 by the world's greatest ever band, but these are the changes I'd make:

    Out:
    'Let there be more light'
    'Nile Song'
    'Free Four'
    'Have a cigar'
    'Dogs'
    'Sheep'
'Another brick in the wall (part 2)'
    'Mother'
    'Goodbye Blue Sky'
    'Hey You'
    'When the tigers broke free'

    In:
    'Scarecrow'
    'See Emily Play'
    'Grantchester meadows'
    'If'
    'One of these days'
    'Us and them'
    'Eclipse'
    'Poles apart'
    'Take it back'
    'Coming back to life'
    'High hopes'

    Works for me :)
