U2 will headline next year's Glastonbury Festival, organisers have confirmed.
The band will take the stage on the Friday night (June 25) of the Somerset bonanza as the festival celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Glasto guru Michael Eavis said: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline..."
All 177,500 tickets for the 2010 event sold out within 24 hours earlier this year.

Oh what horrible news. This means that every bastard newspaper and magazine is just going to be falling over itself to fill it's pages with the hell-on-legs that is U2. I think I will go and holiday on the moon next June.
I fucking loath U2.

The U2's songs are full of life, energy and emotion and each album they record come with a new way to show these feelings. No other band is better to do this, so easily and natural. I am very enthusiastic about what they can accomplish in the shows of the tour next year. And the probability of the band recording a new album soon after recalls the Zoo Tv era.
