Win Tickets For Rodriguez!

LONGTIME DEVOTEES OF THE Mexican-American singer-songwriter born Sixto Diaz Rodriguez - ranks swollen by those enlightened by the timely '08 reissue of his 1970 masterpiece Cold Fact - will be flocking to venues in Manchester, Bristol and London next week, where he capitalises on a popular turn at this year's Green Man festival.

Rodriguez's is a remarkable story. Roundly ignored in his native land when Cold Fact and its follow up, Coming From Reality, first emerged on obscure Buddah imprint Sussex, the singer-poet enjoyed a surge of interest in South Africa and Australia in the later '70s. A cover of his signature tune, Sugar Man, was the highlight of David Holmes' 2002 album Come Get It I Got It, and last year's Light In The Attic re-release of Cold Fact was appointed #4 in MOJO's reissues of the year. It's been a long march to something approximating success for a man whose uniquely groovy groove and impassioned vocals - think an anguished Donovan mourning the breakdown of civilisation - deserve greater exposure.

He visits Manchester's Deaf Institute on December 7, Bristol's Thekla on the 8th and London's Union Chapel on the 9th. Support is from Tennessee psychsters Wooden Wand, and tune archaeologist Andy Votel mans the decks.

For a chance to win a pair of tickets to one of the shows, reply to Editor@MOJO4music.com with the subject line "Rodriguez Competition" and the correct answer to the following question...

Rodriguez's wonderful Sugar Man is about what or whom?

a) Sir Alan Sugar
b) A glucose technologist
c) A drug dealer

Don't forget to include your name and contact details, including an appropriate phone number, since it's short notice and we'll need to contact winners on Friday afternoon. You must also indicate which venue you're entering for. Competition closes at 1pm Friday December 4.
