Clint Eastwood's Johnny Mercer Doc To Screen On BBC FOUR

Arena: Johnny Mercer - The Dream's On Me, a feature-length film charting the life and times of the American songwriting legend, will premiere on BBC FOUR on Sunday, April 2 at 9pm (date subject to change).

Produced by Clint Eastwood and Bruce Ricker - the team behind last year's Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends - The Dream's On Me features contributions from the likes of Blake Edwards, Jamie Cullum, Dr John, André Previn and the late John Dankworth, as well as performances from Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Barbara Streisand and many more.

As a lyricist, Mercer was responsible for jazz standards such as Moon River, One For My Baby, Summer Wind, Midnight Sun and many other American Songbook perennials. In 1942, he co-founded Capitol Records quickly signing Peggy Lee, Nat 'King' Cole and Stan Kenton. During his 50-year career he won four Academy Awards for Best Original Song.

"Mercer may not be a household name today," says Eastwood. "But his songs are like the air that we breathe they're part of everyone".

Johnny Mercer - The Dream's On Me received four stars in the February 2010 issue of MOJO magazine.
