The Hold Steady will release their fifth album, Heaven is Whenever, in May.
The record is set to appear on May 3 in the UK and May 4 in the U.S. Producer Dean Baltulonis - the man behind the Brooklyn rockers' debut album and breakthrough follow-up Separation Sunday - has once again been ensconced behind the mixing desk. The band has also confirmed plans to hit the road in the summer.
"As with each record, there was a desire to make it more musical than the last one," frontman Craig Finn told the band's UK label Rough Trade. "In this case, more musical meant an attempt at more dynamics, different instrumentation, more complex arrangements, and not always hiding behind raw volume."
The Hold Steady's last album, Stay Positive, was released in 2008. Mustachioed keyboardist Franz Nicolay left the group in January.
The tracklisting for Heaven Is Whenever looks like this:
1. The Sweet Part of the City
2. Soft in the Center
3. The Weekenders
4. The Smidge
5. Rock Problems
6. We Can Get Together
7. Hurricane J
8. Barely Breathing
9. Our Whole Lives
The band play London's HMV Forum on June 22 and Manchester's Academy 2 on June 26.
