Mapping a path through the labyrinthine world of British prog is no easy task, but Wondrous Stories - a new compilation from UMTV - gives it a good go.
The set comes in both 4-CD and 2-CD versions, each drawing on the genre's psychedelic beginnings and epic, '70s heyday which means tracks from the likes of Yes, ELO, ELP, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Traffic and Hawkwind are all included.
With cover art designed by prog-appointed fantasy artist Roger Dean, this is a set for both newcomers and seasoned prog-heads, although some selections are destined to attract outbursts of "That's not prog!" from the genre's more fastidious curators.
Two winners will each receive the giant 4-CD collection, while 5 runners-up will take home the 2-CD package. For a chance win one of these prizes, simply submit your details along with the correct answer to the following question:
Ian Anderson is a member of which of the following groups?
a) King Crimson
b) Gentle Giant
c) Jethro Tull
Wondrous Stories - Artists That Shaped the Prog Rock Era and Wondrous Stories - A Complete Introduction to Progressive Rock are both out now.
