Tom Waits and the New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band have recorded two songs in aid of the organisation's Music Outreach Programme. The records - signed and individually numbered by Preservation Hall Creative Director Ben Jaffe - are to be released as limited-edition 78rpm discs.
Tootie Ma Was A Big Fine Thing and Corrine Died On The Battlefield are two Mardi Gras Indian chants originally recorded by Danny Barker in 1947 and were covered by Waits and the Jazz band in New Orleans in 2009.
Of course, you'll need a vintage-friendly piece of audio equipment to actually listen to the record, which is why the first one hundred copies sold will be packaged with a custom-built 78rpm turntable.
The individual discs will be released via the Preservation Hall web site on November 20 and will cost $50 while the deluxe package (78rpm player included) will set you back $200. If you happen to be/live in New Orleans you'll be able to buy both editions in-person from the Preservation Hall the day before (November 19). All proceeds will go to the Preservation Hall Junior Jazz & Heritage Brass Band. The Preservation Hall was founded in 1961 to protect and honour New Orleans jazz.

Clarté.
Je me sens
très las, quand
le son de la
neige doucement
disparaît comme
la voix mélodique
d'un chant très
heureux: j'écoute
l'atmosphère,
l'amour et la vie.
