1980 first album plus singles, B-sides, demos and radio sessions.
Dexy's 1980 debut introduced Kevins Archer and Rowland and Big Jimmy Paterson's explosion of '60s Stax Revue-like energy, passion and post punk attitude with vocals, a lively mix of General Johnson, Van Morrison and Al Green on songs with inspired titles - see Tell Me When My Light Turns Green, The Teams That Meet In Caffs etc. Then there was that punchy tribute to soul man Geno Washington and an obliterating cover of Chuck Woods' Seven Days Too Long. The five previously unissued demos recorded on January 10, 1980 and the John Peel and Kid Jensen Radio 1 sessions from the same year also included are a huge draw - a cover of Sam And Dave's Hold On I'm Coming! is remarkably accomplished; their cover of Otis's Respect is genius. "You got respect Jimmy?" "I've got respect!"
