Marianne Faithfull has made the first track from her new album, Horses & High Heels, available to download for free.
Why Did We Have To Part - a rumination on her split with long-time partner/manager François Ravard - was written by Faithfull and Laurent Voulzy and produced by the sonic architect behind 2009's Easy Come, Easy Go, Hal Willner. The album was recorded in New Orleans with local musicians led by Meters bassist George Porter Jr. The record is made up of eight covers and four original songs and features contributions from Lou Reed, Dr. John and Wayne Kramer . Despite the break-up drama of Why Did We Have To Part, Horses & High Heels looks set to maintain its predecessors feeling of warmth and positivity.
"Conventional happiness isn't my way, you know," says Faithfull. "But this is a very happy record. I'm not depressed anymore. And I think it's all been well worth it. I did have a bit of a bad time in the '70s but I think things have been wonderful. So I suppose this album is a bit of a breakthrough. I'm incredibly lucky, don't think I don't know it. I'm so grateful to be able to still write songs and express my emotion in music. And the best thing of all is working with such great people. It's inspirational."

I can't believe you misspelled Faithfull in the printed header of the article. Very professional.
