Sing The Golden Oldies/Spontaneous Combustion

Fab live document plus under the influence covers album.

The Shirelles

1964's Sing The Golden Oldies sees the New Jersey four piece look back to the records that impacted on their girl group sound; their harmonies sound heavenly on Tears On My Pillow, To Know Him Is To Love Him and Runaway but on release were deafened by the charge of the British Invasion. 1967's Spontaneous Combustion though had them frugging in the aisles. Recorded live for the most part at New York's Columbia University and bolstered with live in the studio takes of then current single A Last Minute Miracle and No Doubt About It, it's everything the title promises as the group, stood around a single mike, squeal and jerk their way breathlessly through the Stones' (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Eddie Floyd's Knock On Wood and their own Mama Said, Baby It's You and Boys with gusto.
