Stax! Live - a special event celebrating the music of the legendary southern soul label - takes place on Wednesday, July 27 at London's 229 Club.
This one-off gig will be headlined by a stellar trio of Stax Records stalwarts. Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn - the guitar and bass-playing half of the extraordinarily funky Booker T. & The M.G.'s - will appear alongside pioneering vocal powerhouse Eddie Floyd. His 1966 classic Knock On Wood (co-written with Cropper) was one of the Memphis label's first major hits and Floyd remained at Stax until the doors closed in the mid-'70s.
You'll also be able to sample the Hammond B3 magic of Lester Snell from Issac Hayes' original band and Steve Potts - the man who replaced the late, great Al Jackson in the M.G.'s over 30 years ago.
