  • The 60s Mojo was excellent, particularily the SMiLe feature. It was interesting [ always is lol] to hear Mike Love's comments on Smile in particualr, and Pet Sounds and how his memory of those days seems to "let him down" at times. But its nice to know in 2011 that Mike really DID like Smile after all and didnt think it was druggy music and Pet Sounds wasn't Brian's ego music. I think its widely accepted that apart from Brian's difficulties with acid it was Mike's constant undermining and sniping to Brian, the band and anyone in the vicinity about the [i'll be polite here] lacking in merit of the Smile music, that caused the plug to be pulled. If you want to sum up Mikes ambivalence [ again Im being polite] try and get hold of a studio take of Heroes and Villains where Mike does a "humorous" [it is quite funny in a car crash sort of way] voice over describing how he feels H&V is basically crap and will end the Beach Boys career. Says it all really,

  • Excellent articles and good to see the interviewer asking BW fascinating questions which he answers fully and coherently. I think the studio session of Heroes and Villains actually featured Brian doing a take off of Mike; I don't think it was actually Mike himself? Maybe all will be revealed in the soon to be released Smile sessions. Also interesting to note that a film about BW's life is to be made. Now THAT is some story to tell! I hope it's done really really well!!
