HOW TO BUY… Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry

When plus-sized ska popsters Bad Manners asked him to produce them in the eighties, Lee Perry said he would - as long as they changed their name to Good Manners. And throughout Scratch's long career, the manners have been more than good.

This month we ask you to recommend the best albums and productions by this giant of Jamaican music. Who's digging super-catchy organ LPs like Return Of Django that he made with the Upsetters from '69? And what's the best LP as the seventies progressed? Blackboard Jungle? Double Seven? Then there are the albums he produced for other people at the Black Ark - what would life be without The Congos' Heart of The Congos, or Junior Murvin's Police And Thieves? What of his later works, like 1987's On-U LP Time Boom x De Devil Dead, or the Grammy-winning 2003 set Jamaican E.T.? You tell us!

As ever, the best comments and recommendation will appear in the next issue. Danke!
