The MOJO Honours List 2008: The Pictures
AS OF MIDNIGHT, the voting for the 2008 MOJO Honours List entered a new phase, with the publication of a star-studded, quality-rich list of nominees.
Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner finds himself recognised in four categories, with Best Album and Best Live Act namechecks for his bread-and-butter band and Breakthrough Act and Best Song nominations for his velveteen orch-pop incarnation, The Last Shadow Puppets.
Welsh soulstress Duffy and MOJO Honours List perennials Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds both score a pair of nominations apiece, while there’s a surprise late surge from Wisconsin-based indie folk-rock act Bon Iver, whose exquisite debut album For Emma, Forever Ago is causing such a stir amongst MOJO’s audience of sonic savants.
Elsewhere, there’s recognition for The Very Best Of Ethiopiques – an amazing compilation culled from 23 volumes of unearthed Ethiopian grooves, the world music sensation of 2007 – and Led Zeppelin, whose astonishing gig at the O2 Arena in December continues to reverberate amongst music fans.
Renewed voting on the shortlists will continue online here at MOJO4music.com until May 28. The results in these, and a bevy of Merit Categories, will be revealed at the MOJO Honours List ceremony on June 16.
