This Award honours the representatives of venerable traditions, channelers of ancestral sounds. Previous winners have included southern soul originals Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham and folk- and country-rock alchemist Chris Hillman. This year, it's presented to a man with a lifetime's service to reggae music, a man who paid his dues in bluebeat and ska with his sweet-toned vocal group The Maytals before defining a sound of his own: funky reggae.
