This year's Special Award goes to a true original, remarkable for the crystal purity of her voice and her championing of eclectic, literate material. From piano-prodigy childhood, through folk club adolescence to a maturity in sophisticated pop, country and gospel, she's forged her way through personal tragedy, finding time to bring a little known Canuck poet called Leonard Cohen to popular attention and inspire Stephen Stills to write Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.
