Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
Magnificent late-'50s singles round-up that keeps on giving.
Seasick Steve celebrated last year's win by downing a bottle of red wine. Previous winners - Corinne Bailey Rae in 2006, The Magic Numbers in '05 - received our acclamation in a more sober fashion. This year's shortlist consists of the sultry kitchen sink dramas of Duffy, the angular inventive neo-post-punk of Foals, the mellifluous throwback folk-blues of Pete Molinari, the cinematic twang'n'croon of The Last Shadow Puppets, and the suddenly-happening, melancholy slowcore of Bon Iver.
