If you turned left,
Gruff Rhys was deep in chat with
The Zombies. Look right and there were the
Manic Street Preachers, pledging fealty to
Guns N'Roses' Duff McKagan. Cast your eye wherever and you'd witness members of
Mott The Hoople, cock-a-hoop that they were still with us, and a multitude of admirers queuing to share their Mott memories (or was that just
Joe Elliott?). There were even those enthusiastic neo-goth puppies
White Lies... Hang on, how did they get in?
The keynote of any MOJO Honours List Ceremony is the vibe of generational torch passing, and 2009's vintage was no exception, with exchange of love between
Fleet Foxes and crystal-voiced folk maven
Judy Collins rivalled by the mutual inspiration-a-thon that was
Blur's summit with
The Specials. Blur were so excited that they left their Award behind. In fact, if they want it back they need only email MOJO's Senior Editor - it's still sitting on his desk at the MOJO office.
Yet even this 24-carat cavalcade of legends - swollen to celebrity tumescence by the likes of
Johnny Marr, Billy Gibbons, Chris Blackwell, Corinne Bailey Rae (pictured)
, Joe Brown et al - were quite impressed to see one
Yoko Ono in attendance.
"MOJO fans, if you're listening to me, please keep on supporting MOJO," she beamed, generously, "because there's not another magazine like this in the world."
