MOJO Magazine: The home of great music - and the home of great writing about music.

Welcome to MOJO, the home of great music – and the home of great writing about great music. Since 1993, we’ve been telling stories about our favourite records and sharing our new discoveries. We’ve spoken to our heroes: Paul McCartney, Prince, Kate Bush, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Sly Stone, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Temptations, Leonard Cohen, Brian Wilson, Pink Floyd, Pharoah Sanders, The Rolling Stones and countless more.

We’ve championed wave after wave of emerging artists, from a wide range of genres, and made profound connections between the newest music and what has gone before. And we’ve dug tirelessly through the racks of record shops around the world to uncover lost and unsung gems. Our belief is that however much you know about music, and about the musicians you love, there’s always more to find out.

That mission started in 1993, when MOJO magazine was launched. In that first issue, our founding Editor Paul Du Noyer promised, “Our aim is to cover the best music we know, in the best way we know how. We’ll tell some untold stories and make some fresh connections… We’ll try to present it beautifully. We will insult nobody’s intelligence.”

Over the ensuing 30 years, our staff and body of writers have grown and changed, but many have stuck with us, comfortable in the knowledge that MOJO is the spiritual home of the most dedicated music fans. We’ve expanded, too, like most magazines that have survived this far into the 21st Century. MOJO now also encompasses the MOJO Collectors’ Series, a long-running series of deluxe volumes dedicated to our canonical stars; the MOJO Record Club podcast; and, of course, mojo4music.com.

Here at the MOJO website, you’ll find a wealth of news stories, key album and live reviews, classic interviews from our archives, and lists that are always valuable and insightful, never clickbait. We’re here to celebrate the music we love, not pick fights and unload hot takes. Over three decades, we’ve always tried to remember that we’re music fans – and that many of the artists we feature are music fans, too.

They are also, in many cases, MOJO fans, and it’s a source of great pride to us that our heroes are also our readers. “It’s the go-to music mag for me,” U2’s The Edge said of MOJO. “It’s clearly made by people who, first and foremost, love music.”

Meanwhile Jack White, remembering the early days of The White Stripes, remembered “How much MOJO meant to me and Meg back then. They were little Bibles.” And the late David Crosby was even more effusive, proclaiming, “MOJO is the only real music magazine left in the whole world!”

“We always used to say MOJO was not for people whose clocks had stopped. They’d never lost their curiosity for new music,” our first Editor, Paul Du Noyer, told us recently. “In my head, chronology isn’t very important. Whatever was created in the past is in some sense informing the great music that gets made now.

“I think all music kind of exists simultaneusly. Somewhere, in some dimension, Elvis Presley is stepping up to a microphone to sing Heartbreak Hotel for the very first time, and that is something that is close to the secret, I think, of MOJO.”
