Pet Shop Boys
Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen
★★★★
PARLOPHONE

Delivering what it promised, the Dreamworld tour found Pet Shop Boys playing hits without filler. The setlist varied slightly, but the July 2023 show captured in this concert film - initially screened in cinemas last year - delved back to 1984’s West End Girls and went as far forwards as 2020’s Monkey Business.
It is, of course, a dazzling display of pop power, especially on Blu-ray. The Friday night Copenhagen crowd are particularly roused by Domino Dancing, but the daft costumes, Neil Tennant’s stories (featuring a comically inept Texan cowboy accent), roadies dressed as construction workers and the wonderful lighting, transform an aural spectacle into a visual one.
It’s a weirdly static affair, though, so where once New York City Boy featured dancers dressed as sailors pirouetting around Tennant, here it’s left to fend for itself and suffers accordingly. Ultimately, though, songs this fabulous, presented as a relentless celebration trumps any caveats.
Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen is available on CD and Blu-Ray from May 2.
