Amyl And The Sniffers At Glastonbury 2025 Review: Aussie pub-punks beat the ‘crook’ in triumphant style

Amyl & The Sniffers

Other Stage, Saturday June 28, 2025

There’s hot, then there’s Saturday amid the shade-free dust-scape of Glastonbury 2025’s Other Stage hot. And way beyond that heat, there is the mosh pit as Amyl And The Sniffers detonate the 90-second introductory fuse of Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled) upon hearing the wise words of bassist Gus Romer: “Let’s fucking go, cunts!”

The crowd’s efforts are heroic enough – just standing still under this late afternoon sun is exhausting – but a mere trifle next to the shift the Sniffers are putting in. Up until Friday the ocker Aussies’ appearance was in doubt, with singer Amy Taylor laid low by a virus and confined to her hotel room. Yet she’s here, a vivid blaze of spit and plain-speaking, cutting right to the heart of matters with a version of ’90s US rapper Boss’s I Don’t Give A Fuck (“Not a single solitary fuck”) and thence into the gently aggro-vatory Balaclava Lover Boogie. Three songs in, she’s humping the stage à la Iggy, a magnificent advertisement to the restorative powers of gob, groundling punk and bad language.

Amy’s rowdy boys raise their game throughout, not least when Amy briefly departs the stage to attend to a wardrobe malfunction. “You had enough yet? Me neither,” quoth guitarist Dec Martens. “When I put my hands up,” offers Romer, “you say ‘oi, oi’!” These moments offer welcome respite from the gnarly throttle, but with Amy punching the crook away the fierce fun never relents for long. “Do ya like swear words?” she wonders, the cue for Jerkin’ and multiple outbreaks of co-ordinated female bonding in the field. Amy catches the staunch mood with her Knifey dedication – “to the ladies and our trans friends – fuck J.K. Rowling!” – then brings Amyl’s version of “jazz” with U Should Not Be Doing That.

Finally, with Amy Taylor quite clearly fully restored, there’s the none more rhetorical Hertz – “’Ey Glastonbury, do ya love me?!” – and one last chance to chuck beer in the air. Well, it would be rude not to.
