CMAT At Glastonbury 2025 Review: Irish singer defies online trolls to emerge triumphant

CMAT

The Pyramid Stage, Friday June 27, 2025

Does CMAT have - as she claims right at the start of this triumphant hour-long celebration - "an amazing ass”? Does she have - for anyone worried her booty may overshadow the music - “the best Irish country rock’n’roll band in the world”? Is the Pope a Catholic?

A year ago, CMAT’s body broke the BBC when hate-filled trolls went to town slating her appearance on its website. Twelve months on, she appears bulletproof, unrepentant and proud, with a humungous shock of electric blue eye-shadow, oversized Euro-styled earrings and her musicians graffitied with witty quotes those trolls could only dream of delivering from under their rocks: “She’s really mental”, “God, I really hate her”, “Dunboyne Diana”.

As the set hurtles to its communal singalong climax - Take A Sexy Picture Of Me, Running/Planning, I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby! - she takes a moment to point the finger at herself before current single The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station: “It’s a meditation on hatred and how it does not serve me.” The trolls have failed, and by the end of the year CMAT ought to be the biggest pop star on the planet.
