NEW YORK TRIO Sunflower Bean will release their debut album next week – but we’re streaming a preview right now (see below). The band – drummer Jacob Faber, singer-bassist Julia Cumming and guitar-playing vocalist Nick Kivlen – make their mark with Human Ceremony a week today (February 5). You can hear it in its entirety via Apple Music (or sample all the tracks if you’re not signed up).
“The past two years, hundreds of shows, thousands of hours playing, writing, practising, meetings, interviews, and traveling have all led up to a 40 minute recording of sound,” they tell MOJO. “The feeling of finally releasing all this hard work and time encapsulated in a vinyl disc is as exciting as it is scary.”
Gleaming indie, with suitably frayed edges, Sunflower Bean’s debut merges chiming harmonies with an urgent accompaniment. The group have snagged the attention of the UK's Green Man Festival, who have been quick to add them to this August’s line-up.
“We are so looking forward to touring the album,” the group say of their upcoming live dates. “We can’t wait to travel to places we've never been before and play amazing summer festivals like Green Man!”
